A guardianship is needed in the event a minor’s parent(s) or current legal guardian(s) are no longer able to properly care for the minor. A guardian must obtain a court order before they can make decisions on behalf of the minor. A temporary guardianship can also be ordered if the minor does not need a new permanent guardian. Emergency guardianships are only ordered when there is an immediate danger to the minor.
